Food security and environmental sustainability are intertwined issues that need to be addressed widely and with a sense of urgency. There is only one planet where we can live in and our actions today will impact our lives in the years to come and that of the next generations. Here are some avenues that can help raise awareness of these important issues.


GLF Biodiversity Digital Conference   

The Global Landscapes Forum Biodiversity Digital Conference: One World – One Health will take place on October 28 to 29, 2020 Central European Time. The conference gathers more than 200 speakers with the aim to learn from scientists, policymakers, Indigenous Peoples, environmental practitioners, banks, private corporations, and local communities about how to restore the earth.

Tickets for Regular All-Access Pass, Country Discount All-Access Pass, and Youth Access Pass are 15 euros each. A Solidarity Pass, which includes more knowledge and voices in the next Global Landscapes Forum, costs 50 euros. Terra Madre Salone del Gusto

The Slow Food Negros Community, in partnership with the Department of Tourism Region 6, the Province of Negros Occidental, Negros Museum, Afedi, and Slow Food International will launch the Slow Food Negros Community Terra Madre 2020 on October 30. Events include Food Talks, How to Use Local Ingredients during Times of Crisis, and Ark of Taste Films.

Events can be watched live through @slowfoodnegros on Facebook and YouTube for free. The Slow Food Negros was founded and recognized by Slow Food International in 2012. Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, which was held in 1996 in Italy for the first time, is the biggest international food event that is dedicated to food, the politics of food, and the environment.



Sustainable Interior Design Week

Join the free online classes in sustainable interiors during the Sustainable Interior Design Week on November 2 to 6, 2020. The classes are The Path for Sustainable Interiors (Nov. 2), Sustainable Interiors and Resources Conservation (Nov. 3), Sustainable Interiors and Human Comfort (Nov. 4), The Path for Your Green Career (Nov. 5), and Summary of the Event Plus Bonuses (Nov. 6).

UGREEN’s mission is to accelerate the transition to sustainable construction through education and consultancies. They’ve been educating communities worldwide on sustainable strategies since 2015. Climathon Pasig

The City of Pasig is calling for its citizens to be part of Climathon Pasig, a climate solution ideation to help the city achieve its goal of having a solution for affordable, nutritious, sustainable, and accessible food for Pasigueños all the time. This year’s event will be a three-day ideathon, starting on November 13 to 15, and it will be done 100% online.

Participants will be given 72 hours to develop solutions for food security. The best solution will have the chance of getting support from the organizers, partners, and Pasig City to be further developed and implemented as a pilot program in one of the barangays in the city. On November 17 to 18, Cultivate-Africa will have an online conference with the theme Galvanizing Partnerships for Promoting Resilient Agriculture and Food Systems in Africa in the Shadow of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Cultivate-Africa has 8 tracks. These are Government and Policy, Social Protection, Domestic Market, Intra-Africa Trade, Supply Chain, Technology and Innovation, Women and Agriculture, and Agribusiness and Finance. The conference will follow the Greenwich Mean Time plus 2 hours. It is organized by African Union and Hallpax.

ACS Agricultural Science & Technology Journal

The American Chemical Society Publications is going to launch in 2021 the ACS Agricultural Science & Technology, which is a new journal that is added to the Agricultural and Food Portfolio. This journal will publish original fundamental and applied research in agricultural sciences, engineering, and technology. It is now accepting submissions. An ACS ID is needed to submit a manuscript. It is for free.

Another new journal ACS Publications is going to launch next year is the ACS Food Science & Technology, which is also open for submissions of original research in food science, nutrition, engineering, and technology.
