The Vhenee Saturno Online Songwriting Contest
Do you have a song that you’ve wanted to share for some time now? Why not pen it down and get a chance to be rewarded for it? The Vhenee Saturno Music Corp (VSMC) launched an online songwriting contest that is open to amateur and professional Filipino songwriters all around the globe. 10 finalists will be picked and exciting prizes are promised.
Vehnee Saturno, who is himself a product of a competition, is an award-winning composer. He won first place in the Metro Manila Popular Music Festival in 1982 for his song Isang Dakot. Some of his well-known songs are Sana Kahit Minsan, Mula sa Puso, Be My Lady, and Till My Heartaches End. His awards include Best Musical Score in FAMAS Award and Best Original Song in FAP Awards.
Now, Vhenee wants to turn the limelight to other Filipino song composers. His record production company VSMC manages and protects his and other writers’ songs. Some of the services it provides are record production, music publishing, CD replication, and artist management. The company’s clients include major record companies, television networks, advertisers, and independent record producers.
- The theme of the competition is “Today’s Hits, Tomorrow’s Classics.” Contestants should think about the theme when they’re writing their songs.
- Each participant can only submit 2 entries. These are the categories: Ballad / Pop, RnB / Hip Hop, Folk / Rock, Novelty, and Dance. The entries may be for the same category or for 2 different categories.
- Each entry may be in Filipino or English or a combination of two languages like Taglish.
- Entries should not be more than 4 minutes.
- The format should be in MP3 (96 Kbps).
Entries can be submitted until November 15, 2020. Submit your entries through this link. You must have a Gmail account to open the form. Only one file can be uploaded for every submission. The criteria for judging are: melody (40%), lyrics (30%), commercial appeal (20%), and musical arrangement (10%).
The VSMC Studio
Those who want to rent a studio for virtual concerts or live streaming performances can also get in touch with VSMC. The studio has video and audio recording, green screen, and fiber optic internet connection. It’s located in 34 Times Street, West Triangle, Quezon City.
If you also want to learn about songwriting and music production, you can enroll in Online Songwriting and Music Production Workshop with Vehnee Saturno via Zoom. You can inquire for fees and other details through Facebook or send an email to VEHNEES@YAHOO.COM. There are a total of three sessions.
The first session is how to write music and lyrics. The second session is how to do a good demo song for presentation to a label. And the third session is how to release a song in digital market as an independent artist.
